Find out about the ConnectRight campaign
Misconnections can have a dramatic impact on rivers and the use of rivers. They can cause pollution, visual and odour problems and even a health risk due to the levels of untreated sewage.
As well as causing damage to the environment and human health, this is a problem for water companies who have to meet strict standards for water quality and the environmental regulators who enforces those standards.
The ConnectRight campaign brings together partners who are working to reduce water pollution:
- Water UK (representing the Water and Sewage Companies)
- Environment Agency (environmental regulator for England and Wales)
- Consumer Council for Water (representing water consumer interest in England and Wales)
- Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (UK campaigner for environmental and public health)
- Defra (UK government department responsible for environment, food and rural affairs)
- CIPHE (the professional body for the UK plumbing and heating industry)
Reducing water pollution
The campaign aims to reduce water pollution by:
- raising awareness and understanding of misconnections and the environmental problems caused by them
- helping you to check your existing above ground connections and show you how to take the necessary action to correct them if necessary
- making sure that you/your builder connect new appliances, toilets, showers, etc, correctly
- encouraging you to contact your local Water and Sewerage Company if you are unable to solve your misconnection difficulties.
